International Shipping
Last updated: 30 September 2026
We post orders from our Nairobi store to customers around the world. This page explains how international delivery works, what it costs, and — importantly — how customs duties and import taxes in your country are handled. Please read it before you order so there are no surprises when your parcel arrives.
The short version: any import duties, taxes and customs charges raised by the destination country are payable by you, the customer, and are not included in the price of your items or in the shipping fee you pay us at checkout.
Where we ship
We deliver to most countries worldwide. Your delivery options and the exact cost are calculated at checkout once you enter your destination and postal / ZIP code.
A small number of items cannot be shipped internationally — for example fragile, oversized or restricted goods. Where that applies, the product is marked as unavailable for international shipping and you will see this before you pay.
How we ship and how long it takes
International orders are sent by tracked courier (DHL Express) so you can follow your parcel from our counter to your door. Once your order has been packed and dispatched we will email you a tracking number.
Dispatch time: orders are usually prepared and handed to the courier within [1–3] working days.
Transit time: typically [5–10] working days, depending on the destination and how quickly the parcel clears customs.
These are guidelines, not guarantees — customs inspections, public holidays and remote destinations can add time.
Shipping costs
Shipping is priced by the weight, size and destination of your order and is shown at checkout before you pay. The shipping fee covers carriage to your country only. It does not cover the import duties, taxes or customs charges described below.
Customs duties and import taxes
When your parcel arrives in your country it may be assessed for import duty, VAT / GST / sales tax and a customs or courier handling fee. These charges are set and collected by your own government and the carrier — not by Langata Link Shops — and they are your responsibility as the importer of the goods.
Whether anything is charged, and how much, depends on your country's rules, the type of goods and the total value of your order.
Many countries only charge duty and tax above a minimum value threshold (a "de minimis"); below it, parcels often arrive with nothing to pay.
The courier will normally contact you to collect any charges before final delivery. If charges are refused or left unpaid, the parcel may be returned or destroyed by customs, and any return shipping and fees may be deducted from your refund.
We declare every order accurately. By law we must show the true description and full value of the goods on the customs paperwork. We cannot mark an order as a "gift", understate its value or leave the invoice off — doing so is illegal and risks your parcel being seized or delayed.
Customs paperwork and your details
Every international parcel travels with a commercial invoice listing the goods, their value and their origin (Made in Kenya). To help your order clear customs smoothly, please make sure that:
your delivery name and address match your ID;
you include a working phone number — the courier and customs may need to reach you; and
you provide any tax or import identifier your country requires for personal imports [e.g. an EORI number in the EU, or the equivalent ID elsewhere — list the ones that apply to your customers].
Prohibited and restricted items
Some of our pieces are made from natural materials — wood, seeds, horn, bone, hide, soapstone and the like. A few of these are restricted on import by some countries, or need a permit under wildlife (CITES) or agricultural rules. It is your responsibility to check what may be brought into your country before you order.
If you are unsure about a particular item, contact us first and we will help where we can.
Delivery address and contact details
Please double-check your address, including the postal / ZIP code, before you pay — we ship to the address exactly as entered, and we generally cannot change the destination once a parcel has been handed to the courier. Parcels that cannot be delivered (wrong address, unpaid customs charges or unclaimed) are returned to us, and the cost of the return may be deducted from your refund.
Tracking your order
As soon as your order is dispatched we will email you a tracking number and link so you can follow its progress and see when any customs action is needed.
Returns on international orders
Our usual return policy applies to international orders. Please note that you arrange and pay for return shipping, and any import duties or taxes you have already paid to your country are generally not refundable by us — they are recovered, if at all, from your local customs authority. We refund the value of the returned items once they reach us in their original condition. See our Return Policy for full details.
